Day 1

SAN JOSÉ

The Central Valley is surrounded by mountains, and is where more Costa Ricans live. San José the capital, offers a variety of sights for the visitor. Beautiful Museums, the National Theater, and elegant cathedral and much more waiting to be explored.

Upon arrival to International Airport, our driver will pick you up and will take you to San Jose, lodging for 1 night, breakfast included.

Day 2

PENÍNSULA DE OSA

Breakfast included at your hotel.

Today, our driver will pick you up and will take you back to the airport for you to catch a local flight to Drakebay.

Upon arrival to Drake, a taxi from your hotel will meet you to take you to the hotel of your choice.

During the 3 nights in this area you will enjoy the 2 main tours which are: Hiking at Corcovado National Park and Snorkeling at Caño Island.

Day 3

CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK

Tours during your stay will be arranged according to weather conditions.

About Corcovado:

“Here the beach has a different composition, since it is made up of rocky sections and small bays of great scenic beauty. It also has a tropical humid forest very rich in biodiversity, for which without doubt it is a location of great appeal to nature. In order to get a better look, you can go on walks or go horseback riding.”

San Pedrillo is the closest Corcovado National Park Ranger Station to Drake Bay, located 1:30 minute boat ride from Drake Bay.

This beautiful area offers possible sightings of dolphins and other marine and aquatic marine life, passing an island nesting spot for the Brown Booby.

Our arrival at the beach location of the Corcovado National Park is a wet landing, so bring your sandals in addition to sturdier footwear for the trails through the National Park. Our bilingual naturalist guide will lead a 3-hour hike through the primary and secondary forest, locating and explaining the extensive rainforest wildlife and flora.

The rich biological diversity of the Corcovado National Park is astounding, and sightings may include as many as 4 types of monkeys, as well as coatis, sloths, anteaters, and much more.

Bird lovers will be enchanted by a wide variety of birds, including tanagers, flycatchers, kingfishers, manakins, trogons, crested guans, and spectacular scarlet macaws and toucans.

Day 4

CAÑO ISLAND

Caño Island is located 12 nautical miles from Drake Bay. Departure for this tour is at 8.00 am. During the scenic boat ride, which lasts approximately 1 ½ h, enjoy mangrove forest frequent sightings of dolphins, marine birds, as well as — in season — whales, false orcas and sea turtles.

The 600 acre island is a significant historical archaeological site for Costa Rica, where two of the miraculous and mysterious perfectly round spheres from the pre-Colombian era were discovered along with other historical items.

Caño Island is an ideal spot for snorkeling, swimming, and relaxing. Two trails are available for light hiking, the first leading to the site of many of the archaeological discoveries, where a few representative artifacts still remain, and the second to a beautiful lookout on the south side of the island.

Aquatic life around the island is spectacular, and snorkelers will find a broad and colorful spectrum of Pacific Coast reef fish – triggerfish, trumpetfish, damselfish, parrotfish, angelfish, puffers, among many others — as well as rays and sea turtles.

Day 5

MANUEL ANTONIO

Early breakfast and boat transfer to Sierpe River. Around 10:30 a.m shuttle transportation service to Manuel Antonio directly to the hotel of your selection, breakfasts included. Check in at the hotel is around 3.00 p.m. but you can leave luggage at hotel reception and get ready to enjoy the hotel´s facilities.

Manuel Antonio region:

“On the edge of the Central Pacific coast, Manuel Antonio is the most radiant jewel. Manuel Antonio National Park`s 683 hectares boast some of the country´s most varied and breathtaking scenery. Surrounded by lush, very wet tropical forest, the park`s trails offer sightings of white-faced monkeys, sloths, coatis, raccoons, iguanas and many bird species, as well as the Costa Rican squirrel monkey.”

Days 6-7

MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, a guide will pick you up to offer you a hiking tour to Manuel Antonio National Park.

The Park protects many types of flora native to tropical rainforests, and a variety of fauna which is easy to observe almost everywhere.

This Park has four interesting geomorphologic features. The first one is the tombolo at Punta Catedral. The second feature is the blowhole at Puerto Escondido, the third one is Punta Serrucho and the fourth one is the pre-Columbian underwater turtle trap at the western tip of Manuel Antonio Beach.

The main habitats in the park are primary forest, secondary forest, mangrove swamps, which cover 18 hectares, and small herbaceous swamps and open water lagoons scattered throughout the interior. The Park houses a variety of wildlife, including 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds.

Back to your hotel. Free afternoon to enjoy at the beach, why not, take an optional tour or just relax and drink a cocktail while you enjoy the refreshing swimming pool at your lodging.

ARENAL

Breakfast included. Shuttle transportation service to Arenal Volcano, lodging for 2 nights, breakfasts included.

La Fortuna area is one of the most amazing regions in the country, with cloud forests, active and dormant volcanoes, hot springs, waterways, wildlife refuges, caves, extreme sports, bird watching and pastoral landscapes.

Day 9-10

ARENAL

Breakfasts included.

One of these days you can choose to go on an unforgettable adventure: Safari boat tour in Peñas Blancas River, horseback riding to La Fortuna Waterfall, canopy or hanging bridges.

Day 11

TORTUGUERO

Around 6:00 a.m.

you will leave your hotel in Arenal with destination to our beautiful Caribbean Coast.

You will be taken to Guapiles to a local Restaurant where you will enjoy a typical breakfast and will be met later by an English-speaking guide from the Lodge.

Board a comfortable boat upon arrival to the port and let this extraordinarily exotic paradise charm you, as you travel along the Tortuguero Canals.

Have a one-in-a-lifetime experience in this unique place surrounded by a great variety of flora and fauna of breathtaking beauty…A refreshing cocktail and delicious lunch will welcome you to the lodge.

After lunch, a visit to the museum, the beach area and the small and picturesque town of Tortuguero is included. Order of activities depend on the selected hotels and will be informed by your guide upon arrival.

Tortuguero:

“This wilderness area is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green sea turtle. Tortuguero National Park is the largest protected tropical rainforest in the country and it is a destination known for excellence in viewing various turtles species.”

Day 12

TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK

6:30 a.m.

Optional morning tour: Enjoy nature at its best as you undertake a journey through the canals, a network of navigable waterways of great scenic beauty crosses the park from southeast to northwest.

The canals and marshes are the habitat of 7 species of tortoise. They also provide shelter to the endangered West Indian manatee (Trichchus Manatus) and the rare crocodile (Crocodylus acutus). Back to the lodge for breakfast.

After lunch, take your time to enjoy the hotel’s trails, ride a boat through the canals, swim at the pool, or just relax. Dinner and overnight.

Day 13

PUERTO VIEJO

Breakfast included. Around 9:00 a.m. boat transfer to the dock and land transportation to Siquirres where a shuttle transportation service will pick you up and will take you to the beautiful South Caribbean. Lodging for 2 nights, breakfasts included.

The Caribbean Coast offers visitors an authentic environment surrounded by lush rainforest, Caribbean style boungalows and houses and the opportunity of relishing the exotic Caribbean cuisine.

Day 14

PUERTO VIEJO FREE DAY

Breakfast included. Day at leisure to enjoy the hotel´s facilities or for taking any of the optional tours in the area such as a visit to Cahuita Park, Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge or you can also rent a bike and visit the different beaches on your own.

About Cahuita:

Cahuita National Park has an extension of 2,732 terrestrial acres and 55,200 marine acres. The Park protects beaches and lowlands of the southern Caribbean coastal region of Costa Rica.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are allowed in the protected marine area, which contains a coral reef and associated sea life. The southern beach is a known nesting ground for several varieties of sea turtle.

Many coral and fish species are found in the waters. Lobster, white shrimp, crabs, green turtle and various crustaceans are part of what you will see.

Inland the fauna is also abundant: howler monkeys, raccoon, white-nosed coati, a vast variety of birds, etc, inhabit the park. This area has maintained its natural charm. If you love nature, this is one place you will enjoy.
